The Blog Sound of 2015 | Longlist Revealed

Before getting in to this year's Blog Sound of 2015 longlist, how about we take a step back to 2014 and check in on what's been a fantastic year for our previous winners. Coming in joint 1st place Banks and Marika Hackman have both seen phenomenal success in their rising careers. Marika now signed to one of our favourite labels Dirty Hit Records and Banks selling out shows wherever she may please, racking up over 20 million Soundcloud hits along the way. London based singer/songwriter Sivu came in as runner up and has also benefited from a stellar 12 months singing to Atlantic Records to release his debut album 'Something On High'. Whilst maybe not direct influencers on their success as artists, it's polls like these that have no doubt help propel bands and musicians in to the spotlight giving them some rightfully earned recognition.

Now in to its fifth year founded by fellow blogger Breaking More Waves, The Blog Sound poll is a wonderful insight in to what's popular amongst British bloggers. And that's the beauty of it. Unlike the now well established BBC 'Sound of...' list with a panel of music 'experts' mainly made up of industry folk, many of the blogs involved in this write from their pure undying passion for new and emerging talent - therefore acts are nominated not on a basis of who might be the next big thing, but on a more fan based level. Okay, once again we see a lot of controversy about how no Rap/RnB/Hop Hop acts made the final cut but then again is that really our faults? Do we have an obligation to nominate acts based solely on cultural background or within specific genre restraints? I don't think so. 62 UK music blogs took part this year, the most since its start in 2011 with 148 artists receiving at least 1 vote. If the blogs who represent the Rap/RnB/Hip Hop scene can't get around to submitting a vote then the problem surely lies with them, no? The poll might not be a true 100% accurate snapshot of the whole UK blog scene's taste but it's done all it can do.

So without further ado, here's the nitty gritty. Each blog got 3 votes. The first choice receiving 3 points. Second choice 2 points and 3rd choice 1 point. The votes were then tallied up and the results presented here before us - 2 of which being ones I put forward myself; Fickle Friends and Laspsley (a lot of others being reserve choices too).

The act who gained the most amount of points in the poll will be announced on January 2nd 2015. The Full Blog Sound of 2015 Longlist (In alphabetical order)
