Video: Marika Hackman | Drown

It'd be no misjudgement to say I could listen to the haunting intro to Marika Hackman's Drown at least a million and one times and never get bored. What's more joyous is the fact it only gets better as the songs intricate folksome melodies unravel. Following on from offering fans the stream last month, Hackman returns with an official video to coincide with its release on December 8th 2014. Take a watch above as she takes centre stage in the rather sobering feature clip.

"The song itself deals with the idea of suffocating on the power of human emotion and finding it painful yet strangely euphoric in a masochistic way. With my music not a lot of people pick up the underlying violence within the lyrics so I wanted to create a video that would indulge in the dark but beautiful intensity of these words. Working with the directors, Brian and Karl, we drew inspiration from the works of American video artist Bill Viola and the way he contrasts human subjects with the black voids he places them in, to create an erie beauty and serenity which simultaneously belies the violence of what is actually happening". - Marika Hackman

Drown is taken from Marika Hackman's forthcoming debut album 'We Slept At Last' set for release 16th February 2015 through Dirty Hit Records. Her single ‘Drown’ will precede on 8th December 2014.
