finally, the long wait is over. After teasing clips and updating his social media profiles, Ben Howard has broken silence with his stunning new single A Boat To An Island On The Wall (he's not one for short titles that's for sure). There probably hasn't been a day where I Forget Where We Were hasn't made its way on to my car stereo or headphones. It's a timeless classic and whilst many were shocked at the stark departure from his debut record, a softer, more accessible fluffed-up pop imprint, its darkened tones and expanding spaces proved to be far more engaging. I for one am glad that sound has stuck around.
Clocking in at 7 minutes it's not for the faint hearted but then if you wanted an immediate fix you'd look elsewhere. Filled with waves of effects and guitars that crumple up around the walls they surround, it's evolving sound culminates in to a gorgeous crescendo of chiming layers and heavier melodies that assail you from all angles. It borrows from its predecessor evolving and building throughout and gets richer with every listen. Take a listen for yourselves below.
