Last week saw MarthaGunn share the video for their latest single ‘Holding The Fire’, taken from their debut album ‘Something Good Will Happen’ due for release September 17th via Communion. Director Jack Lilley says “With ‘Holding the Fire’, I wanted to show someone trapped in an endless repetitive cycle that they want to break free of. It was really important to show the whole band as a whole in this video, so I felt basing it off a 70s cult that all lived together and rhythmically did pointless tasks was a great way to show this. A few days before the shoot, Humphrey from the band had to pull out for COVID reasons, so naturally I decided to make him the absent spiritual leader that they were completing these tasks for.” Frontwoman Abi Woodman continues, "This was maybe the most fun we’ve ever had making a video. We’d worked with Jack previously on the video for ‘Giving In’, and we love the way he works. We’d had enough of rocking out and flicking our hair around in videos, so we wanted to do something we’d never done before. The video portrays us as a cult, something we’ve never felt too far from being. The song is reflected in the narrative; stuck in a loop, eventually taking control and freeing yourself.” Take a watch for yourselves below.
