Ahead of her UK tour in September and upcoming Staves support shows, Samantha Crain returns with her stunning new single Pick Apart. Another rich introduction to her sound, the track builds silently in to a blisteringly wholesome crescendo as it culminates with its soaring pop sensibilities. Speaking about the single Samantha said "I wrote this song as a mantra to myself to keep the wheels turning and life moving even through the times of weakening quicksand. I can’t always keep momentum and joy. I’m not always my best self, and that’s fine, but I wanted to write something to remind myself in those times of slow-down and of ‘stuckness’ to try and find at least a little purpose for myself, even if it’s something really small like cooking a meal or watching a great movie. I don’t want to be too hard on myself when I’m resting but, at the same time, I want to be in touch with myself enough to give myself little tiny pep talks here and there to just gently remind myself that this is my one life I’m getting to live."
The track comes backed by a self-directed clip shot in her hometown of Oklahoma City. "My inspiration for the video was the movie, My Own Private Idaho. I've always felt that that film expressed a sense of need and belonging in the midst of drifting around and I feel that this song digs into those thoughts within me. Bits of that movie play with surrealism and those parts have always spoken to me as a warning....as if to say don't get caught up drifting through your own life, don't forget to live...so I wanted to pay homage to that movie in this music video".
