Ahead of the band's sixth studio album, My Big Day, due for release on 20th October and set to feature Holly Humberstone, Damon Albarn, Jay Som, and Nilüfer Yanya, Bombay Bicycle Club have this week shared their latest single I Want To Be Your Only Pet. Derived from a riff Jack used to play during sound checks, the track's driving percussion and jazzy melodies combine with its infectious chorus for maximum effect as it culminates towards its charging finale. Speaking about the track he goes on to say “I was just playing around with guitar sounds at soundcheck, and started playing this riff. Jamie must have heard something in it because he got out his phone and started recording. For the next few months he would constantly text me to ask ‘have you written a song around that riff yet?’ So finally I did to stop him harassing me. To me it sounds like if Abbey Road era Beatles had a love child with Rated R era Queens of the Stone Age.” Take a listen for yourselves below.
