G Flip, SWX Bristol

Following a year of touring recent album Drummer, G Flip made their Bristol debut in the only way they know how with a performance soaked in pure pop-perfection. 

As the lights dimmed, G emerged from the darkness to a deafening roar from the crowd and took up position behind the drums for an energising drum solo to kick start the show. All before quickly swapping to a cordless mic to allow full stage domination as they ran edge to edge, soaking up the insatiable atmosphere inside. 

With the house rules stated - essentially don't be a dick and look after one another - the show could get in to full swing. Simple rules that I'm sure everyone can abide by.

Being a self-proclaimed percussionist, instead of three-way vocal harmonies, things are done a little differently around these parts as a trio of drums were placed centre stage in anticipation for an explosive display of percussive skill. 

From "Didn't Mean To's" catchy hooks and the huge vocals on "Rough", it's amazing to watch how much one artist can switch between instruments. From drums, to guitar, to keys. The reverence runs deep in to the crowd as each song was met with a rapturous applause and cheer. And this doesn't go unnoticed. G Flip took moments throughout to thank the crowd in full in adoration to such a dedicated fanbase.

A perfect time then to get to the sentimental section of the night. "Seven Days" is where we get to see the heart of their music as things are stripped back to basics as G announced the track explaining how the album became re-imagined with these new versions on the Drumless EP. This served as the perfect set up for "Lover", an earth shattering power ballad that had the crowd clinging on to each and every word.

Though, It's not long before the pace is picked up once again. As if playing drums whilst singing wasn't a skill in itself, G takes it one step higher during "Drink Too Much". To the balcony in fact, as they suddenly disappear off stage mid song, only to re-emerge above the standing crowd, engulfed by excited fans trying to take selfies on the upper levels. 

Returning for the encore, fans were treated to a powerful rendition of Taylor Swift's Cruel Summer which recently saw G go viral on social media. And it's clear to see why. 

At this point, a medical incident in the crowd put a pause to the music (G confirmed on Instagram that they were doing fine after the show and even managed to meet them afterwards. A relief to see), so making use of the time, fans were given the opportunity to ask questions with an impromptu Q&A session. Willingly obliging, G told the amusing tale of how they got married to partner Chrishell Stause in Vegas. 

Sadly that marked the end of the show due to the impending curfew.....or did it. Lucky fans who stuck around took to the street outside the venue as the band delivered an acoustic performance of "The Worst Person Alive". A true artist of the people. 

Bristol showed up, and G Flip delivered a masterclass in blending musicianship with raw emotion. Their dynamic drumming, captivating vocals, and infectious energy made for an unforgettable night, and as the show came to an (official) final close, it was clear they'd left a lasting impression - one of genuine connection and pure musical joy as buzzing fans wandered off in to the night. This certainly won't be one they forget.
