With a band name that's ungoogleable, and a sound that's impossible to pigeonhole, London newcomers Y have unveiled their debut single Why which breaks all moulds of convention. Comprising of members from or involved with Fat White Family, Meatraffle and Pregoblin, the band look set to get us pondering life's deepest mysteries as their genre-defying debut melts together chaotic rhythm sections and abstract stylistics. Speaking ahead of their single, the band revealed: “‘Why’ is a song that calls everything into question - It’s an ode to the unanswered, endless questions from the trivial, to the deepest philosophical mysteries. Saxophone dominates the chorus as synth and guitar take the space of the traditional lyrical verses as ultimately we found THE question can only be answered through music.” The single is taken from their upcoming debut EP ‘Y’, set for release April 4th. Take a listen for yourselves below.
